Terra-3 is a military ground (ground complex) for development and tests of laser weapon of high power.
      Balkhash is located on territory of ground of development and tests of facilities of strategic air and protivokosmicheskoy defense of Sary-shagan ashore lake on areas Karagandinskoy and Zhambylskoy of areas of Republic Kazakhstan. On territory of ground the experimental surface systems, intended for the construction of strategic missile defence from intercontinental ballistic rockets, were tested, and also for the defeat of other air and space aims.
      Tester komleks consisted of a few tester grounds for the test of experimental and battle lasers of large power. From unconfirmed data, tester options were utillized by the different systems of lasers and different systems of pumping of workings bodies - gas lasers and lasers are mentioned with the explosive pumping. There are also mentions about development on the ground of lasers with the nuclear pumping.
      Laser radar of complex 10.10.1984 carried out sounding of spaceship Challenger, transport system of Speys Shattl (Space Shuttle Challenger) during his flight above territory of Kazakhstan, causing failures in work of the side systems and complaint of crew on the unpleasant feelings, that entailed, from unconfirmed data, formal protest from the side of the USA.
